Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free restaurants in Fargo

When you think of Fargo, you might assume no other food options exist besides meat and potatoes, but we’re here to prove you wrong. Whether you’re looking for vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free, Fargo has something for you to eat.

In this list, we’ve only included places with multiple dedicated options on the menu (i.e. not just a salad menu or one vegan dish). Vegetarian is marked by a V, Vegan by a V+, and Gluten-Free by a GF.

European / Mediterranean

Aladdin’s Cafe (Mediterranean)

V, V+

Substitute any mean option for zucchini, cauliflower, eggplant, or potatoes, or just go straight for the Falafel combos. Aladdin’s marks all vegetarian options with a pink heart on their menu. As for vegan options, they have great hummus and several other Middle Eastern dishes that are vegan suitable.

Ishtar Mediterranean Cuisine (Mediterranean)

V, V+

Almost all of the appetizers at Ishtar Mediterranean can be made vegetarian and are denoted with a green “V” on the menu. As for the entrees, they have a Falafel pita wrap or a vegetarian sandwich made with a whole bunch of veggies with a choice of tahini or tzatziki sauce.

BernBaum’s (Jewish deli)

GF, V, V+

Dedicated vegan bagel plates and sandwiches made with vegan lox and a bunch of other veggies. Similarly, BernBaum’s makes plates or sandwiches with cream cheese or hummus as a vegetarian option. They also have a few gluten-free options made with potato latke and some other yummy toppings.

Würst Bier Hall (German)

GF, V, V+

Wurst Bier Hall‘s dedicated vegan menu features cauliflower bites, Bavarian pretzels smothered in vegan butter, and vegan sausage or burgers with a variety of flavors (Italian, apple sage, or Mexican chipotle). As for gluten-free, they denote which items can be made GF — like ordering sausages without the bun.

American

Babb’s Coffee House

GF, V, V+

Both gluten-free bread and wraps are available at Babb’s for their grilled panini sandwiches and breakfast sandwiches. Try out the vegetarian sandwiches made with loads of veggies, or the Woodland Park grilled cheese. There are also a couple of vegan wraps made with black beans and guacamole.

HoDo Lounge

Daily vegan specials at the HoDo can spark your interest, but the hummus plate, salads, and wild rice burger are consistent (each of these need a few alterations to be vegan). As for vegetarian dishes, there are Huevos Rancheros, pasta options, and several appetizers. Gluten-free options are denoted on the menu as well.

Red Raven Espresso Parlor

Although they do not have an extensive food menu, most things at Red Raven are already vegetarian and can be made vegan if you exclude the cheese options.

Rustica

GF

There are a ton of starters and entrees at Rustica that are Gluten Free like the cornmeal-dusted walleye with lump crab meat (yum) and the crispy pork belly.

The Boiler Room

GF, V

With a new expansion of their menu, the Boiler Room has added quite a few gluten-free and vegetarian options. Many of the entree options are naturally gluten-free with a meat entree alongside a veggie, and they make shrimp zucchini pasta with a white wine garlic sauce. Vegetarian options range from a variety of salads to the triple grilled cheese with tomato soup.

Toasted Frog

Order a vegetarian lavosh or pizza option or go for the Portobello Mushroom Melt with spinach, basil aioli, and gruyere cheese. If you’re gluten-free, check out the dedicated section of the Toasted Frog’s menu which includes a few entrees, a few of the sandwiches (without the bun) and most of the salads.

Twist

For vegans, Twist is the place to go (even for brunch!) with vegetable lettuce wraps, bruschetta crostinis (with vegan cheese), and scramblers made with veggies and vegan cheese (specific vegan menu available). A few gluten-free options are denoted on the menu and include the blackened scallops and many options on the brunch menu.

Wild Terra

North Dakota’s first urban cidery has an entirely vegetarian small plates menu! They focus on “plant-based” menu items with a bunch of street taco options, buddha bowls, and melts. Just ask for things to be made either vegan or gluten-free.

Paradiso

The “Very Vegetarian” section of the menu at Paradiso has a whole bunch of meatless protein options that you can add to the fajitas or enchiladas, or try out the jalapeno or bean and cheese burrito.

Blaze Pizza

With build-your-own pizzas, Blaze Pizza can be your one-stop shop for a pie. Blaze makes a great gluten-free dough for their pizzas, add one (or all) of the 25+ GF topping options and you’ll be in for a treat. Vegan options include meatless chorizo and vegan cheese that you can pair with some great veggies.

Rhombus Guys also has a 10.6″ gluten-free crust available, ask about the vegetarian options or order the thin crust pizza with vegan marinara for a vegan option.

Poke Bowl (Hawaiian)

Build-your-own Hawaiian Poke bowls accommodate vegetarians, vegans, and gluten allergies at Poke Bowl. Pokes include ahi tuna, cooked shrimp, and tofu and toppings alongside a bunch of veggie toppings.

Drunken Noodle/Slurp Ramen (Japanese)

Slurp makes a vegan/vegetarian bowl with fried tofu, rice noodles, and vegan broth and many of the rice noodle dishes are gluten-free (just make sure there isn’t any soy sauce with wheat in the dish).

Order any of Drunken Noodle‘s dishes without meat for an easy vegetarian option.

Indian

Everest Tikka House (Indian/Nepalese)

Everest has a huge vegetarian menu with a Nepalese twist. Try the Chana Masala (chickpeas cooked with herbs, onion, and tomatoes Panjabi style) or the Malai Kofta (nuggets made of minced vegetables and cooked in a cream). Ask about the vegan options.

Himalayan Yak (Indian/Nepalese)

Many Indian dishes are naturally gluten-free with the meat entree and jasmine rice. Vegetarian meals are laid out in a full section of the menu at Himalayan Yak, and you can ask for the curry sauce to be made with coconut milk to make them vegan.

India Palace (Indian)

With a huge vegetarian menu at India Palace, you can try a bunch of different dishes with veggie options like the Matter Paneer (green peas & homemade cheese) or the Alu Gobi Tikka Masala (cauliflower and potatoes in a Tikka Masala sauce). Opt for coconut milk in the curries to make them vegan-friendly. Pro-tip: go for the lunch buffet to try a lot of different dishes for a very reasonable price.

Thai/Vietnamese

Leela Thai (Thai)

GF, V, V+

Many menu items are marked as “vegan” by a small green emblem. Nearly all the curries plus several of the stir-fries and noodle dishes at Leela Thai can be made vegan/vegetarian. Choose rice noodles or a side of rice with many of the entrees to make them gluten-free.

Thai Orchid (Thai)

Thai Orchid‘s menu is filled with gluten-free and vegetarian markings next to many of the items. All of the vegetarian options can also be requested to be vegan by having them make it with dairy-free milk. There’s also a choice of using fresh or fried tofu or muck duck to make the other dishes vegetarian as well.

Since Pho is traditionally made with rice noodles, many of the options are gluten-free at Viet Palace. Ask about their vegetarian and vegan pho options.

Mehl’s Gluten-Free Bakery

GF

This is the go-to spot for all kinds of gluten-free baked goods and meals. Homemade by a local family with celiac members, they have perfected the bread, muffins, and cookies (not an easy feat)! Try any of their sandwiches or grab family-style meals-to-go from their rotating menu. Mehl’s Gluten-Free Bakery also have a bunch of dairy-free options as well so be sure to ask about that if you’re sensitive to dairy as well.
