A Fargo-Moorhead RV adventure for the whole family
Traveling across the United States in an RV provides many simple pleasures and a lot of adventure. You are sure to eventually make your way to Fargo-Moorhead area of North Dakota and Minnesota at some part of your journey. In fact, it is smart to make this one of your main destinations. Make it a point to come to Fargo-Moorhead when you are nearby, or not so nearby.
The Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area has a lot to offer visitors of all ages. No matter your preferences, you are sure to find attractions to please. Outdoor recreation is abundant, plenty of museums to absorb some culture, and events you can write home about. You can make your home base at one of the marvelous RV campgrounds, such as the Lindenwood Campground on Fifth Street South in Fargo, ND.
Find many recreational opportunities at Buffalo River State Park. This is only about 15 miles east of the cities of Fargo and Moorhead, and offers numerous trails for hiking. Have a picnic beside the Buffalo River. There is a lot of wildlife that make this their home, too. Back to Fargo and perhaps some golf. Golf is a big favorite here. You’ll find a long list of golf courses where you can improve your game.
If you like to get a taste of WW II, stop by Fargo Air Museum where you must be sure to enjoy the full-size mural which depicts the history of flight since the earliest days. Don’t miss the Frasca 241 Simulator where you can fly for a 30-minute session. A real thrill!
Find exhibits and events at the Plains Art Museum downtown and also stop by to visit the Maury Wills Museum where Mr. Wills, a former National League Most Valuable Player and Los Angeles Dodgers star is honored. He was the first person steal over 100 bases in one season.
Now for some interesting historic sites, like the amazing Viking Ship, found at the Historical & Cultural Society of Clay County. This is a truly memorable sight. Then you must visit the Bergquist Pioneer Cabin in Moorhead to see this oldest house in the area. It was built in 1870 by a Swedish immigrant. You will have to call ahead to the Clay County Museum for an appointment to see this cabin but is well worth it. Another place to put on your itinerary is Bonanzaville, USA, a village made from a number of historic buildings.
For some thrilling events, you can browse the calendars for the Fargodome, Reineke Fine Arts Center and Fargo Civic Center. Attend concerts, football games or trade shows. There is always something happening. Watch the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks play at Newman Outdoor Field or enjoy hockey at John E. Carlson Coliseum or Scheels Arena. Never ending fun!
In the evenings, if you would rather have a night out than sit at home enjoying the quiet in your RV, you can go out to the theater in Fargo-Moorhead. You have a number of choices. Fargo Theatre is an Art Deco movie theater presenting classic and current films. At the Fargo-Moorhead Community Theatre you’ll discover some great comedies, musicals and dramas. You can even find an opera performance at the Fargo-Moorhead Opera. Yes, everything is here! If visiting in late July, you will get a chance to see the Gooseberry Park Players performing at the Frances Frazier Comstock Theatre.
There are so many attractions in this area that it is almost mandatory you spend some time here so you can take them all in. For example, who could neglect to see the Red River Zoo? This zoo features 16 acres of habitat for 60 species, including rare and endangered animals. There is even a petting area.
Another fun spot is the Celebrity Walk of Fame, a free attraction which rates high with celebrity lovers. There are more than 110 signatures, footprints and handprints of great stars, like Neil Diamond, Bill Gates, Debbie Reynolds and many more.
Fargo-Moorhead has really enjoyed your company, and now it is time to head… well, wherever it is you were going. Whether going home or simply moving on to another vacation destination, it is for sure you had a memorable time here, and you are welcome back any time.
