Looking for a Fun Run in Fargo-Moorhead?

The fun run phenomenon has invaded Fargo-Moorhead. Whoop Whoop! I’m sure you’ve probably seen pictures of your friends racing in ridiculous costumes, running covered in mud, or dodging zombies. Now is the time to shake up your normal running routine and try something new, wild, possibly muddy, and extremely fun. If you are a beginner, that’s perfectly fine! Theme runs and obstacle challenges add an extra level of fun to the more traditional races, while also opening up the market to a much broader audience. The races are designed to be social (maybe silly) events more people are willing to give a try. A very large number of people in fact!

Last weekend, nearly 900 walkers, joggers, and competitive runners participated in the Illuminight 5K. People were dressed in crazy costumes, glow wear, and flashy lights ready to illuminate the city. The city shut down the street, the Old Broadway brought the party outside, and cranked up the music for the young and old to enjoy. Runners stretched out and cooled down with some dancing and singing throughout this glowful event.

Now is the time to spice up your life and take advantage of the local fun runs!

On September 14th, make your way to Buffalo River Race Park and get down and dirty at the extreme Mudman 5K obstacle course! Make your way through the water-soaked motocross and oval race tracks, ponds, mud filled river edges. Runners will be pushed to their breaking point… and maybe beyond, both physically and mentally. Who doesn’t like having a little fun in the mud?

Not able to make it to the Mudman? Don’t worry, you have one more chance this year to get dirty in the mud! The Filthy 5K on September 28th claims to be the F-M area’s original mud run. Beyond Running hosts the 5K fun run through the trails of MB Johnson Park in Moorhead, MN. Mud baths, mudslinging, and mud fights are 100% acceptable.

If mud isn’t your thing, boy do I have a fun run for you! Brighten your life and run in the Color Me Rad 5K September 28 at MSUM Nemzek Hall. You start the run with a clean white t-shirt that gets coated throughout the run with color bombs of blue, green, pink, purple, and yellow until you come out tie-dyed. Each section of the run adds a new explosion of color to your clean shirt. Get ready to leave this race looking like a rainbow.

For you serious runners looking for more distance, I have a challenge for you. Start your training for the 2013 Fargo Mini Marathon. This is one of the flattest and fastest courses in the area and is quickly becoming one of the premier road race events in the upper Midwest. On October 19th, make your way to the Scheels Arena and enjoy the fall run through some of the nicest neighborhoods, parks, and tree-lined streets. At the finish line, you get to feel like a rock star and make a grand entrance into the Scheels Arena to cheering fans and music! How can you top that?

There is still time to sign up for these fantastically fun and adventurous events! Take the plunge and do it now!!!
