This is going to be a great weekend to get out and do some exploring! One event that I am particularly excited about is the grand opening of the Shelly Ellig Entrance Building at the Red River Zoo this Saturday from Noon to 4pm.
Not only can you stop by to see some of the new animals and the new additions (both animal and infrastructure related) but you can also do it for FREE. Yeah, FREE. In case you missed it, there is free admission to the zoo this Saturday from noon to 4pm. Now is the perfect time stop by. So far the weather forecast for this weekend also looks to be perfect too.
In addition to free admission you may have heard that it is also Earth Week. A special celebration is planned at the Red River Zoo called “Party for the Planet” sponsored by Minnkota Recycling.
Here’s just some of what is planned:
- Tree Planting Ceremony
- Learn how to make your own recycled paper
- Give the kids hands-on experiences with “toad abode” and “bagel bird feeder” activities
- Hone your own animal observation skills to start seeing the wildlife around you every day
If you haven’t been to the zoo recently you are going to want to stop back soon. A lot has changed over there. I had the chance to walk the grounds earlier this week and it was like an entirely new experience. There are new creatures, a new layout and a gorgeous eco-friendly welcome center waiting for you. Learn all about the geothermal features and other “green” efforts going on at the zoo too. It is going to be a hopping place this weekend. I wouldn’t be surprised to see 2,000 or more people hitting up the zoo on Saturday to check out all that is new and improved.
When visiting the zoo be sure enter through the new parking lot at 4255 23rd Ave S. in Fargo, ND.
Have your visited the Red River Zoo before to check out the endangered animals? We’d love to hear about your experience! Or maybe you know of another event going on this weekend?
