OPENING KICKOFF
Friday, January 27, 2017
6:00PM-9:00PM
409 Broadway

This year’s opening kickoff will be held at 409 Broadway. Inside the building, you’ll find the Cocoa Cook-Off where 9 local businesses will be giving out samples of hot chocolate and competing for ‘The Golden Mug’ award. In the adjacent heated tent will be the beer garden along with the live music. The live music is open to all ages, but of course the beer garden area is 21+. Outdoors you can cozy up by the fire pits and make s’mores, take a carriage ride through downtown Fargo or enjoy some good eats from one of the food vendors. Here’s a quick rundown of all the things happening during the Frostival Opening Kickoff:

LIVE MUSIC

  • Live music from Tripwire 6:00PM-9:00PM
  • Located in the heated tent on 4th Ave N

COCOA COOK-OFF

  • Located inside the building at 409 Broadway
  • Local coffee shops and restaurants compete for the ‘Golden Mug’ award
  • 9 participating businesses will be offering samples of their hot chocolate and you can vote for your favorite
  • Participating businesses include Babb’s Coffee House, Green House Cafe, Josie’s Corner, Moxie Java, Nichole’s Fine Pastry, Northstar Coffee, Stumbeano’s, Teaberry and Twenty Below

MIDCO FAMILY ZONE

  • Dakota Carriage Company will be offering carriage rides from 6:00PM-9:00PM
  • The pick-up/drop-off for the rides will be outside the building along Broadway
  • Free s’more kits for the first 1,000 people

BEER GARDEN

  • Located inside the heated tent
  • Featuring beer from Fargo Brewing Company, Drekker Brewing Company, Junkyard Brewing Company, Flatland Brewery

FOOD VENDORS

  • The Hot Dog Peddler
  • Cakery Pops
  • Salty Sweet Snacks
  • Texas BBQ

DOWNTOWN INFOCUS OPEN HOUSE

  • Located inside 409 Broadway

  • Businesses in the downtown area offering specials during the Opening Kickoff
  • Participating businesses include Swanson Health Products, OTHERS, Zandbroz, Smiling Moose Deli, Garden Pavilion, Kittsona

CARDBOARD SLED RACES

  • Location: Mickelson Sledding Hill
  • Races classes include Age 10 & Under, Age 11-15, Adult (Age 16+) and Family
  • FREE, but registration encouraged – register here

CROSS COUNTRY SKI RACE

  • Location: Edgewood Golf Course
  • Classic style and skating style races, both youth and adult
  • $10 Youth and $15 Adult (additional $2 on the day of the event)

END NORSE RACE

  • Location: Riverwood Park
  • 5K run, firewood toss and weighted sled pull
  • $20/person through January 26, $30 January 27-28

GOLF TOURNAMENT

  • Location: Elmwood Park
  • $40/team of 4, $10 per additional person after 4
  • Must register by January 26

“ICE BOWL” DISC GOLF

  • Location: Woodlawn Park
  • $30/person – a portion of registration fee will be donated 

KICKBALL TOURNAMENT

  • Location: MB Johnson Park
  • $150/team (16 players max per roster, must have equal or greater number of females to males)

SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

  • Location: Mickelson Park
  • $150/team (10 or 12 person lineups, must be equal in number of men and women)

VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT 

  • Location: Fargo Billiards & Gastropub
  • $100/team (players must be 21+, must have at least as many women as men on the court)

 

BASE CAMP

Base Camp is a good place to chill on Saturday. Enjoy local beer, grab a bite to eat from one of the food vendors, watch the cornhole tournament or do a sauna session. You should also check out the live music later in the evening.

BATTLE OF THE BAGS TOURNAMENT

  • Location: Inside heated tent
  • 11:00AM-4:00PM
  • $60/team (2+ players, but only 2 members may play during a match)

BEER GARDEN

  • Location: Inside heated tent
  • Featuring beer from Fargo Brewing Company, Drekker Brewing Company, Junkyard Brewing Company

LIVE MUSIC

  • 7:00PM-11:00PM
  • The Cold Hard Cash Show
  • Location: Inside heated tent
  • $10 at the gates

LOG THE SAUNA

  • 11:00AM-4:00PM
  • $10/person
  • 45 minute sessions (two sauna sessions up to 15 minutes + cooling off periods)

KIDS WINTER BOOT CAMP

Rustad Recreation Center and Rivers Bend Park, West Fargo

Take the kids to Kids Winter Boot Camp for a variety of indoor and outdoor family friendly activities including snow painting, sleigh rides, sledding, indoor inflatables, Green Apple-lympics, snow dig for prizes and much more.

In addition to Base Camp, the North of Normal Games and Kids Winter Boot Camp, a variety of activities are planned throughout the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo community on Saturday during Frostival. 

MOORHEAD ACTIVITIES

  • Location: Hjemkomst Center
  • Activities include chili feed, sled parade, snowshoe races, XC ski and snowshoe rentals, marshallow roasting, snow fort making, geocaching and more

SNOWGA

  • Location: Island Park
  • 11:00AM-finish
  • FREE – optional donation of new or gently used hats, mittens or scarves
  • Registration encouraged – register here

XABEAT AT XAZOO

  • Location: Red River Zoo – Carousel Pavilion patio
  • 10:00AM-finish
  • Dance-fitness class combining cardio and body toning
  • Regular admission rates apply; $9.75 adults, $7.75 age 14 & under, free for children under age 2

SUDDEN ICE SCULPTURE PARK

  • Location: Sudden Park –  601 4th St N, Fargo
  • Ice and snow sculptures created by the Folkways team in collaboration with community members and commissioned by local artists

MOORHEAD RESTAURANT PASSPORT CHALLENGE

  • 9 participating Moorhead restaurants offering specials 
    • Courtyard by Marriott, The Frothy Stache, Moorhead Fyn’ Pan, O’Leary’s, Usher’s House, Boulder Tap House, Speak Easy, Chumley’s, Mick’s and Rustica

FROZEN FANTASY FAMILY DANCE

WINTER BIRDING FESTIVAL

  • Location: Forest River Park

  • Educational event to learn about birding and conservation activities

WINTER ROCKS SKATING

  • Location: Downtown on Ice – 599 Main Ave, Fargo
  • 2:00PM-4:00PM
  • Enjoy skating to music and a variety of games on the outdoor ice rink in downtown Fargo
