Winter is worth celebrating: Frostival ’18

Winter is a big deal around here. So it’s no wonder why Frostival is a big deal as well. Keep reading to learn more about everything that’s going on this weekend as we celebrate the cool of winter!

OPENING KICKOFF

This year’s opening kickoff will be held at 409 Broadway. Inside the building, you’ll find the Cocoa Cook-Off where six local businesses will be giving out samples of hot chocolate and competing for ‘The Golden Mug’ award. In the adjacent heated tent will be the beer garden along with live music. The live music is open to all ages, but of course the beer garden area is 21+. Outdoors you can cozy up by the fire pits and make s’mores, take a carriage ride through downtown Fargo or enjoy some good eats from one of the food vendors. Here’s a quick rundown of all the things happening during the Frostival Opening Kickoff:

LIVE MUSIC

– Live music from Slamabama 7:00PM-10:00PM
– Located in the heated tent on 4th Ave N

COCOA COOK-OFF

– Located inside the building at 409 Broadway
– Local coffee shops and restaurants compete for the ‘Golden Mug’ award
– Six participating businesses will be offering samples of their hot chocolate and you can vote for your favorite
– Participating businesses include Nichole’s Fine Pastry, Thunder Coffee, Babb’s Coffee House, Fargo Coffee, Northstar Coffee, Beans  Coffee Bar, and Bully Brew Coffee House

SANFORD CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL FAMILY ZONE

– Dakota Carriage Company will be offering carriage rides from 6:00PM-9:00PM
– The pick-up/drop-off for the rides will be outside the building along Broadway
– Free s’more kits for the first 1,000 people

BEER GARDEN

– Located inside the heated tent on 4th Ave N
– Sanctuary Events will host this, providing a variety of craft beer, domestic beer, and wine.

FOOD VENDORS

– The Hot Dog Peddler
– Fargo Fillies

DOWNTOWN RETAIL OPEN HOUSE

– Businesses in the downtown area offering specials during the Opening Kickoff
– Participating businesses include Front Street Taproom, Kittsona, Nichole’s Fine Pastry, Smiling Moose Deli, Spicy Pie, Unglued, Wurst Bier Hall, Others and Proper

CARDBOARD SLED RACES PRESENTED BY THE FM ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

– Location: Mickelson Sledding Hill
– Races classes include Age 10 & Under, Age 11-15, Adult (Age 16+) and Family
– FREE, but registration is encouraged – register here

CROSS COUNTRY SKI RACE

– Location: Edgewood Golf Course
– Classic style and skating style races, both youth and adult
– $10 Youth and $15 Adult (additional $2 on the day of the event)

GOLF TOURNAMENT

– Location: Elmwood Park
– $40/team of 4, $10 per additional person after 4
– Must register by January 25

“ICE BOWL” DISC GOLF

– Location: Woodlawn Park
– $30/person – a portion of registration fee will be donated

KICKBALL TOURNAMENT

– Location: MB Johnson Park
– $150/team (16 players max per roster, must have equal or greater number of females to males)

VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT PRESENTED BY JOHN DEERE

– Location: Fargo Billiards & Gastropub
– $100/team (players must be 21+, must have at least as many women as men on the court)

BASE CAMP

Base Camp is a good place to chill on Saturday. Enjoy local beer, grab a bite to eat from one of the food vendors, or watch the cornhole tournament! You should also check out the live music later in the evening.

FROSTY CUP

– Teams of two compete in a series of Winter Games for the championship
– Participants receive a pair of Frostival mittens

Kids Winter Boot Camp is a place with a variety of FREE kids activities, food and a place to warm up if need be! Indoor and outdoor family friendly activities include sleigh rides, sledding, indoor inflatables, passport for prizes, Dippin’ Dots, and much more.

Frozen Fortress is especially suited for your whole family! Activities include chili feed, snow sculptures,  XC ski and snowshoe rentals, snowman storytime, snowga, dance attack, log the sauna, and more!

FROZEN FANTASY FAMILY DANCE

– Location: Avalon Event Center

– Semi-formal dance for the whole family

WINTER BIRDING FESTIVAL

– Location: Forest River Park
– 11:00AM-3:00PM
– Educational event to learn about birding and conservation activities

WINTER ROCKS SKATING

– Location: Downtown on Ice – 599 Main Ave, Fargo
– 2:00PM-4:00PM
– Enjoy skating to music and a variety of games on the outdoor ice rink in downtown Fargo

FARGO-MOORHEAD SYMPHONY

– Location: NDSU Concert Hall
– 7:30PM
– $14-$18 for students, $30-$38 for adults
