Don’t Hibernate, Celebrate! Here’s a Look at What’s New for Frostival 2018

It’s that time of year again – the holidays are over, snow is on the ground, and the cold weather is heavy upon us.

You know what that means, right? It’s time to get yourself outside and have some fun!

Lucky for you, Frostival 2018 is just around the corner, happening January 26-27! For those of you who may be new to this whole Frostival celebration, let us fill you in. The basic idea behind Frostival is to embrace the fun things that winter brings even though it may be cold out. Winter is a long season up here, so why not celebrate it? If you want to learn more about the event itself, you can check it out here. Otherwise, let’s get to the good stuff.

You can expect the tried-and-true Frostival favorites, as well as a handful of new events! Here’s a few things to keep your eyes out for.

Frosty Cup

This may be our biggest new event this year! Taking place at Base Camp on Saturday from 1:00pm-5:00pm, this event will prepare competitors for the Winter Olympics. Okay, maybe not the Winter Olympics, but it’s basically our own version of the Winter Games! Teams of two will compete in a series of five challenges to earn their title as the Frosty Cup 2018 Champions. The challenges include Snow Pong, Bean Bag Toss, Dizzy Hockey Stick, Flip Cup, and the hilarious Undie Run. But there’s a catch! Each participant will be given a pair of Frostival mittens to wear during the challenges. If the mittens aren’t worn, the points don’t count! Time to start training and get registered!

Frozen Fortress

Stave Church

If you’ve attended Frostival in previous years, chances are you attended one of the many events held in Moorhead, MN. Up until now, the Moorhead event location has been nameless – cue drum roll please! We are proud to announce Frozen Fortess as the official name for the Moorhead, MN Frostival location, taking place at the Stave Church Lawn!   Expect tons  of great events going on there, including a chili feed, snow sculptures, Log the Sauna, and tons of other activities!

Snowga & Dance Attack

Snowga - Frostival 2017

Back by popular demand, prepare yourself for Snowga! If you’re not quite sure what this is, we’re happy to break it down for you,  snow + yoga= SNOWGA!   What’s not to love about that, right? We decided to make it even better this year by moving it to the Stave Church Lawn for the beautiful scenery as a part of the Frozen Fortress activities.  If you’re thinking to yourself “Man, snowga sounds like a fantastic time!”, chances are you’ll love Dance Attack. Brand new to Frostival, Dance attack is essentially a Zumba workout to modern pop music in the snow! Both can be registered for here.

Free Live Music

Slamabama - Frostival Music

Are you music fan? Of course you are, so are we! That’s why we added an extra night of music! Both Friday and Saturday night will feature live music hosted Downtown Fargo in the Schumacher Goodyear outdoor heated tent!  The exciting and high energy group Slamabama will perform at Opening Kick-Off on Friday, January 26 from 7PM-10PM, while Fargo’s beloved own Downtown Sound will perform Saturday night from 8PM-11PM. You won’t want to miss these stellar bands. Oh, and did we mention it’s free?

Frostival Finale Symphony

Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Frostival Finale

Prefer symphony music over live rock music? We’ve got that too! Wrap up your Frostival experience at the NDSU Festival Concert Hall listening to incredible music by the FM Symphony. Check
this out for tickets and details!

These are just a few of the many great events included in this year’s Frostival. We’re bringing back Folkways Log Sauna to the Frozen Fortress, the North of Normal Games, family fun and more!

The only thing left to do is to mark your calendar for January 26-27, 2018, and get excited to embrace the cool of winter!
