Wine Class – Savoie

Nestled in far Southeastern France, the Savoie has never commanded much attention. Fragmented by the Alps and sharing more in common (culturally? linguistically?) with bordering Switzerland, it is a region that keeps to itself, including keeping much of the wine it produces for local consumption. The few gems that make it out, however, show this to be a place capable of producing extraordinary wine. With a cool climate and high elevations, it follows that Savoie would make world-class white wines of crisp acidity and daring balance while also producing delightful sparkling wines with a vivacious character, more inviting than the prestigious and pompous Champagne. Perhaps most unexpected are the regions enticing reds, grown from local grapes like Mondeuse, as well as cool climate classics Pinot Noir and Gamay. In this class, you will join our own wine expert, Anita Bender, on a sensory journey to this remote and fascinating region. Taste examples of the many styles of wine produced and learn all about these hidden treasures of the French wine world.
COVID-19 Protocols: While we are excited to resume hosting events, we are aware of the risk that remains from COVID-19. Because of this, we are asking that all attendees provide proof of vaccination when they come to the class. The nature of our event makes social distancing and masking impractical, so until advice changes, our classes will be limited to vaccinated customers only.
Must be 21+ to attend.
