Twenty-five years ago, in April 1997, towns up and down the Red River Valley experienced what became known as the “flood of the century.” The fear, uncertainty, and heroism of the time are richly captured in the recently published children’s middle-grade novel Storm Warning by Elizabeth Raum, set in Ada, MN, during the 1997 flood. Raum will visit the Main Library on Thursday, April 21, at 6:30 p.m. to share her experiences during the 1997 flood and explain what prompted her to write the story. She will lead a conversation about using actual events to create an account and talk about the role of children during the flood. No registration is required. This project is supported in part by a grant from the North Dakota Council on the Arts, which receives funding from the state legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.
