Pianist Phillippe Bianconi – POSTPONED

The Fargo-Moorhead Symphony welcomes international award-winning French pianist Philippe Bianconi to the stage on Saturday, March 21, at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, March 22, at 2:00 pm, at North Dakota State University’s Festival Concert Hall. Tickets will be available at the door.

Philippe Bianconi won first prize at the Cleveland International Piano Competition and the Silver Medal in the 1985 Van Cliburn Competition. His playing has been described “always close to the soul of the music, filling the space with poetry and life.  (The Washington Post). Bianconi will perform Johannes Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2, considered one of the pinnacles of the Romantic repertoire. Brahms himself dryly understated things when he wrote of his masterpiece, “I have written a tiny little piano concerto with a tiny little wisp of a scherzo.” Come hear for yourself why this concerto is something more than a “tiny little piano concerto.”

The second half of the program features Antonin Dvořák’s (ANT-oh-nin duh-VORE-zhahk) Symphony No. 7, which may have been inspired by the Third Symphony of Brahms. While Dvořák never lacked for beautiful melodies and colorful orchestration, his Seventh Symphony reaffirms that he was a brilliant composer. This symphony is both dramatic and intimate, a searing exploration of the composer’s examination of his own life and of human existence.

This concert promises to make you think, while appreciating brilliant writing and orchestration. Come, feed your heart and soul with great music!
