Moorhead’s Wild Murie Brothers

Moorhead’s Wild Murie Brothers
A Local History of Environmental Heroes
Thursday, April 22, 7:00PM
Zoom, Facebook Live
Brothers Olaus and Adolph Murie were born and raised in Moorhead, Minnesota, and their coming of age in the early 1900s coincided with a growing national focus on science and nature. From the 1910s to the 1970s, they conducted foundational field research on wildlife behavior and dynamics, contributing immensely to our current ecological understanding of the natural world. Their expertise as wildlife biologists also enabled them to play crucial roles in the protection of national parks, national wildlife refuges, and federally protected wilderness areas. NDSU environmental historian Dr. Mark Harvey traces the impressive Murie legacy on a fitting day of commemoration, Earth Day 2021.
Audience members are encouraged to submit questions throughout the presentation via Zoom or Facebook. Dr. Harvey will address them during a Q&A period at the end.
