Love, Art, and Magic: Prints by Fritz Scholder from the Collection of Claudia Murphy & John Rowell
Visit the museum this weekend to enjoy “Love, Art, and Magic: Prints by Fritz Scholder from the Collection of Claudia Murphy & John Rowell.”
Controversial and prolific, Fritz Scholder embraced paradox. Scholder’s works were immediately recognized for their insight and powerful commentary on publicly held stereotypes of Native Americans that propelled Scholder into a position of prominence as an artist. His revolutionary paintings broke away from stereotypical roles and forever changed the concept of the “Indian artist.”
Best known for his expressionist paintings, Scholder’s style is known for its distortions, explosive brushwork, and vivid colors. His series of works explores the themes of Indians, ancient Egypt, mystery women, and flowers.
Public viewing hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
