HISTORY: The Stockwood Fill

The Stockwood Fill
Tuesday, March 16, 7:00PM
Zoom, Facebook Live
As glacial Lake Agassiz drained away thousands of years ago, a rich prairie and unique geology took its place. This geology presented a challenge to builders as railroads, industry, and town boosters moved into the Red River Valley. HCSCC Senior Archivist Mark Peihl discusses the challenge that the Northern Pacific railroad faced between 1906-1908 while building a railroad grade between Glyndon and Hawley, where the steep beach ridge of an ancient lake slowed railroad commerce.
Audience members are encouraged to submit questions throughout the presentation via Zoom or Facebook. Mark will address them during a Q&A period at the end.
