FM Symphony Orchestra Virtual Concert: Small Scale, Big Heart

The Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra announces its virtual January 2021 Masterworks program, “Small Scale, Big Heart”, featuring Lithuanian pianist Ieva Jokubaviciute, available for streaming starting Sunday, January 31, at 2:00 pm. The program features pieces of great emotional impact written for smaller ensembles, ranging from a brass quintet to a string orchestra with piano and trumpet soloists. Ms. Jokubaviciute and MSUM’s own Tom Strait are the soloists in Dmitri Shostakovich’s Concerto for Piano, Trumpet, and Strings. Other pieces on the program include Estonian composer Arvo Pärt’s Fratres (for strings and percussion); Martha Helen Schmidt’s Petite Prelude and Fugue for Brass Quintet; George Walker’s Lyric for Strings; Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll; and the Valse Triste of Jean Sibelius. Ms. Schmidt lives in Minneapolis, and is planning on attending the recording session.
