Blind Tasting 101

Join us as we explore the art and science of “blind” wine tasting. This class will help you focus on identifying the primary components of wine – acids, tannins, sugar, fruit, and acidity – and deducing varietal, growing climate, and possible winemaker influence. We welcome Laura Botten of Small Lot Wine & Spirits and fellow wine lover Jean Taylor, Certified Sommelier, to lead us through this fun experience!

Laura will pick wines, and Jean will be blind tasting them along WITH you – you will not know what you are tasting either! But, you will learn to detect acidity levels, alcohol, what the color or depth of the wine might tell us, aromas, and flavors, and then extend that to observations about what varietal it is and what regions they may hail from. Some examples would be cool climate vs. warm climate indicators, regional indicators – old world vs. new -standard varietal characteristics that are benchmarks for identifying specific varietals (grapes), and more!

This will be an enjoyable & informative exercise and an exceptional experience for anyone interested in wine – from beginners to seasoned wine drinkers!

Don’t miss out! We will taste at least six wines in a “blind” context, and the wines will be available for purchase! A small cheese plate will be served!
