In a state where agriculture is King and energy is Queen, it’s great to hear that tourism is Prince Charming, and that’s no fairy tale. Our industry is a strong third in North Dakota’s economy, a message delivered last week at our annual Governor’s Tourism Conference.
During the conference, Lieutenant Governor Jack Dalrymple congratulated the industry for its contributions to the economy and quality of life in North Dakota. He credited tourism for a four billion dollar economic impact and 10% of the state’s employment saying “It’s incredible what you’ve done in tourism.”
Personally, it’s gratifying to be a part of such a great industry. It’s important for people in sales and marketing to believe in the products they sell and when that product is our home (or home state), it feels ggrrreeaatt! Sorry, I was channeling Tony the Tiger for a second. You see, despite the severity of the national economic downturn during the past couple of years, North Dakota’s tourism economy has stayed strong and is the only state in America where hotel business actually increased last year. That’s a testament to the enthusiasm and spending by our visitors (you know who you are) and we thank you for helping keep this industry strong. We love tourism and we love you for visiting. I’d say that was a happy ending but there’s no end to tourism’s value in North Dakota, Minnesota, and every other state.
