10 Things To Do in Fargo-Moorhead When It’s Hot Outside

Contrary to popular belief, it’s not always frigid in Fargo. It can get hot…really hot. Throw a little humidity into the mix and it can be downright sweltering. If you find yourself in the Fargo-Moorhead area on one of these hot days, here are a few suggestions for how to cool off.

1. ICE CREAM

Ice cream is basically a must on really hot days. Two of the classic ice cream places in the Fargo-Moorhead area are the Moorhead Dairy Queen and the Moorhead Tastee Freez.

2. HEAD TO THE SWIMMING POOL

This is a pretty obvious one, but it’s a great way to get some sun and stay relatively cool. Check this list of swimming pools in the area.

3. PLAY ON THE RED RIVER

If you’ve never gone canoeing or kayaking on the Red River, a nice hot day is the perfect time to give it a try. Canoe and kayak rentals are available through the Moorhead Parks department. Find more information on rentals and river recreation here.

4. SIP LEMONADE

Another pretty cliche suggestion, but if a hot day isn’t a good reason to go find a good tall glass of lemonade, I don’t know what is. Twenty Below Coffee Co. has a couple flavored lemonades on their summer menu that sound pretty delicious – Blueberry Basil and Orange Grapefruit. Plus, they’re lemonades are usually served in a Mason jar, so that’s neat.

5. INDULGE IN GELATO

Italian-style ice cream is good on hot days too. A couple places to get gelato in Fargo are Nichole’s Fine Pastry and Sweet Dreams Confections.

6. BEACH DAY AT BUFFALO RIVER STATE PARK

While the Fargo-Moorhead area isn’t known for its beaches, the swimming beach at Buffalo River State Park can be pretty appealing on a hot day.

7. SKYDIVING

In theory, flying through the sky should cool you off a bit. At the very least, you likely won’t be thinking about how hot you are. You’ll be thinking about other things like when you should pull the ripcord for the parachute. The good people at Skydive Fargo would love for you to come fly with them.

8. TEABERRY

Looking for a healthier alternative to ice cream? Teaberry may be the answer. They offer Fresh Fruit Boba Teas and other refreshing drinks. The aloe water is pretty delicious too…it might sound weird, but give it a try and you’ll likely be pleasantly surprised!

9. COLD BEER

If you’re of age, nothing beats the heat quite like a nice cold beer. Head to your favorite patio or local brewery and kick back with a tall cold one.

10. SS RUBY BOAT TOUR

See the beautiful Red River from a different view – on the SS Ruby pontoon. The boat has a canopy cover so you’ll be in the shade. You can also bring your own food and drinks on-board. So get together a group of friends and enjoy a relaxing outing on the river!
